January Meeting and Board Election

We are all shaking off the crazy holiday pace and getting back to work. Our January meeting is this Wednesday at 6:00 pm. We are still at the lovely Sungarden Terrace Assisted Living and Memory Care, 2045 Skyline Dr, Lemon Grove, CA 91945.

If you are interested in running for a board position, please fill out the attached form. We will send out a reminder and list of interested members on Wednesday afternoon by 2:00. But don’t worry if you can fill out the form or don’t make up your mind by Wednesday am, you can be self-nominated or nominated from the floor during the meeting, we are hoping to fill as many of the roles as we can to have as robust a board as possible for the coming year! We also would love to have as many members at the meeting in person or on Zoom so that we have both a quorum and a full voice of our members for the important process.

Please consider stepping up and taking on a leadership role. 2025 is the perfect year to learn the ropes and get geared up leading into the mid-term year! The following positions will be open:

  • President: The President shall be the Chief Executive Officer of the club. He/she shall preside over all club and executive board meetings, make appointments to other positions as required, and act as the club’s official spokesperson. The president would have three additional Zoom meetings each month: Serve as a member of the San Diego County East Area Caucus and attend the monthly meeting as our voting member; attend the Central Committee Meeting for the San Diego County Democratic Party once a month as an observer; attend the Council of Clubs once a month.
  • Secretary: The Secretary shall keep the minutes of the general meetings and executive committee meetings, conduct correspondence, maintain the club’s records, and maintain internal communications.
  • Treasurer: The Treasurer shall be responsible for collecting dues, receiving and depositing all club funds received, maintaining an accurate record of club receipts and expenditures, signing all checks as authorized by the Executive Board, making the record of club receipts and expenditures available to any member when requested, and providing a report of the club’s financial status at club meetings as requested. In addition, the Treasurer shall be responsible for filing appropriate Federal and State campaign disclosure reports.
  • Communication Director: This officer will be in charge of maintaining regular communication with club members regarding club meetings and activities. This officer will also oversee the club’s website and ensure that information about the club is kept current on the San Diego County Democratic Party website.
  • Program Chair: The chair is responsible for inviting speakers to monthly meetings and coordinating other club events, such as participation in the Pride Parade, the annual holiday party, and the Fall membership event.
  • Membership Coordinator: This person will be responsible for the annual rechartering, maintaining an accurate listing of members with their contact information, and promoting the club’s visibility in the community.

As we are a smaller club, we have been able to combine roles to meet the needs of a full board in the past, but we would love to have as full a board as possible! We have one club meeting and one board meeting a month.

Dues are due in January, and must be up to date to be considered a Voting Member. It is very important for as many of us to attend as possible. We want to ensure that we have a quorum and a clear, unified voice for the club as we choose our leadership for the upcoming year.

Don’t forget we had some homework for January to bring a way we can engage with our communities both personally and as a club.

In solidarity,

Cynthia Jurado

President

There is still an Ongoing Migrant Crisis

The current migrant crisis at our San Diego/Mexico Border is bleak and dire. Our San Diego County Board of Supervisors have allocated funds to address this crisis, but money is about to run out.

Congress must provide Federal Relief to help us address this problem. Tell your representatives to provide relief by providing the basic needs for these refugees to survive and to fully fund the ongoing efforts at the border.
