Opportunities for engagement: A busy week is coming up!

Hi Fellow Democrats!

We have a couple of exciting ways for you to learn and engage in the greater process this week. We kick off the week on Sunday with an event hosted by the Coronado Democratic Club, a showing of the documentary film “God & County,” which is a chilling look at the Christian Nationalism movement and the threat it is to our country. This is a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding. Sunday, May 19th at 3:00 pm Coronado Performing Arts Center 650 D Ave ( Coronado High School). Doors open at 2:30. I hope to see you there.

School) Doors open at 2:30. I hope to see you there.

We will follow this exciting afternoon with our Party’s County Central Committee’s Zoom meeting on Tuesday evening at 6:00 (it is best to log on by at least 5:45). The agenda includes two important issues for us.

The Cease Fire Resolution

We followed the Resolution at our last meeting through the Resolution Committee’s success. Now, it is before the full Central Committee for a final vote. Only members and associates can speak during the agenda item comment time. You can share your perspective on the Resolution during the public comment session at the beginning of the meeting.

A Propose By-Law Change

This item may be added to the agenda, and we want to prepare for it. The Admin Committee is changing the By-Laws session, which directly affects Clubs and Candidates.

They want to change the wording from “all democratic candidates shall be considered” to “all democratic candidates shall be eligible for consideration.” This would allow clubs to pick and choose who to offer to thier members for endorsement in a given race; it opens up so many loopholes to fair and balanced processes. It makes the process different for every club. If they choose to, we can make it harder for our candidates to view our club as a value add, not an obscene to avoid. This will make every endorsement of nonequal value. We hope to turn back the wording to the original or improve it.

here is the information for the meeting:

6pm via zoom CC Zoom Link (Credentialing starts at 5:30pm). Here’s a link to our Draft May Agenda (will add the items from NIAC, North Coastal, and East Areas, after they meet on 5/20). I’ve attached 3 resolutions, a Bylaw Amendment Proposal and here are the minutes from April CC: https://docs.google.com/document/u/1/d/19vKQO2d0BfinD0ClYTthu3hAGAUFqq5glwMC1vwM6Yw/edit?usp=drive_web&ouid=101008014082515885841.

There is still an Ongoing Migrant Crisis

The current migrant crisis at our San Diego/Mexico Border is bleak and dire. Our San Diego County Board of Supervisors have allocated funds to address this crisis, but money is about to run out.

Congress must provide Federal Relief to help us address this problem. Tell your representatives to provide relief by providing the basic needs for these refugees to survive and to fully fund the ongoing efforts at the border.
