Starting Soon: SVLG Monthly Meeting @ Zest Wine Bistro

Hi Fellow Democrats!

Join us tonight on the back patio of Zest Wine Bistro. Enjoy a glass of wine or beverage and an appetizer to make the meeting more fun!

Please check out the call to action below, it is about the need to collect signatures for a special election to keep a republican from being appointed to a school board in the Cajon Valley.

This Month our monthly meeting we will have a live civic lesson as we watch the County Party’s Resolution Committee consider a version of our Ceasefire Resolution. It will be interactive and your input solicited.

If we have time we can continue our discussion on areas of activism that our club would like to prioritize. We will be responding to our club’s Call to Action and write letters to our Elected Officials.

Notice: we will be taking a vote next Wednesday May 8th, 2024 on a cash expenditure of $120.00 for a booth to be shared by East County Clubs at the La Mesa Octoberfest this coming coming October 4th, 5th, and 6th, 2024.

Look out for a reminder email Tuesday May 7th, 2024 with the agenda and minutes.

Social Hour where we can get to know one another will be from 6pm to 6:30pm.

CALL TO ACTION!

We have a short window of opportunity to flip a seat on the Cajon Valley Union School Board, (CVUSB). We need all the help we can get.

The CVUSB is controlled by a far-right Christian Majority who hate gays, bans books, scapegoats transgender kids, and have no use for PLA’s or organized labor. One of them resigned and another was appointed in a +11 Dem District. Jo Alegria resigned and Emily Schworm was appointed.

Max Coston and Ryan Darsey are taking the lead. Thank you.

Here’s, in part, what Max sent out:

“On Saturday May 11th, we will be holding an event to start gathering the 500 signatures we need to comfortably submit this petition to the County Office of Education. We will have two shifts that day for volunteers to collect signatures from voters in the district. Those shifts will be from 9:30AM to 12:00PM and from 12:00PM to 2:30PM, staging location at the East County Teachers Uniserv Building (Directions on RSVP). You can sign up to volunteer at this link: https://forms.gle/TViomP28cLMgjfEY7

If anyone has any questions, they can reach me at 619.951.6315 or max.

Here are the links:

“The Governing Board voted at a Special Meeting held on April 22, 2024, to provisionally appoint Emily C. Schworm to fill the vacancy in Trustee Area 3. Unless a petition calling for a special election pursuant to California Education Code section 5091, containing a sufficient number of signatures from registered voters of Trustee Area 3, is filed in the Office of the San Diego County Superintendent of Schools within thirty (30) days of the date of the provisional appointment, it shall become an effective appointment.”

There is still an Ongoing Migrant Crisis

The current migrant crisis at our San Diego/Mexico Border is bleak and dire. Our San Diego County Board of Supervisors have allocated funds to address this crisis, but money is about to run out.

Congress must provide Federal Relief to help us address this problem. Tell your representatives to provide relief by providing the basic needs for these refugees to survive and to fully fund the ongoing efforts at the border.
